Description:
The rifle is a long barrelled firearm designed to be fired from the shoulder. The rifle is only bolt action or semi-automatic unlike the Assault Rifle and is designed for civilian uses such as hunting and pest control.
Pros
- Most civilian rifles will be equipped with a telescopic sight and will be accurate to about 150m. This allows the user to take out a zombie before it has even acknowledged the presence of a human.
- The rifle is a useful tool in hunting for food.
- The low rate of fire encourages the user to make accurate headshots and preserve ammunition.
- The hard wooden stock of a rifle can be used in close encounters to bash a zombie in the head, knocking it off balance or even killing it.
Cons
- On long treks a rifle and all the required ammo can be quite heavy.
- The sound of a gunshot can attract zombies to your position.
Availability
There is approximately 450,000 legal firearms (excluding shotguns) in the UK, most of which will be in farms locked up in a metal safe-like gun cabinet.
It would be unwise to attempt to raid a farmhouse unless you are absolutely certain that the occupants are absent or dead as you will probably end up getting shot and killed.
Rating
8/10 The ability to take zombies out from a long distance is what makes the rifle such a good weapon, but as with all firearms the sound of a gunshot can attract hundreds of zombies.
